Artist in Residence FY 2024

Genevieve Lamb

“Nature provides immeasurable benefits to our well-being, and I want to help people rediscover and appreciate that connection. By fostering a sense of wonder, and curiosity through art, I hope to inspire people to re-establish their bond with the natural world, and to hopefully inspire them to preserve and protect our environment.”

Genevieve is a Naarm/Melbourne-based artist whose bold and colourful digital artworks are full of joy and wonder. She studied a Masters of Illustration through Falmouth University, focussing on the ways nature can improve mental and physical wellbeing, and is now studying a Bachelor of Zoology and Animal Science at Deakin University.

After her deep-dive into the science of nature connection and exploring why creating and viewing nature art makes people happy, Genevieve now focuses her practise on creating artworks that celebrate nature to inspire positive wellbeing, mindfulness and joy.

Artist in Residence FY 2023

Ronelle Reid

“Art has always been a vehicle for thought, change and conversation. It helps translate concepts and information into a visual that can be pushed into the community to help educate. This is the only world we get – if that species becomes extinct, that is it. Artists need to communicate important issues, sometimes they are not beautiful but it needs to be done.”

Ronelle Reid is a Brisbane-based artist who uses ink, oils and watercolours to create detailed, visual narratives that explore the relationships between animals and their habitats. She regularly partners with conservation and wildlife organisations and causes, to raise the profile of animals in need through her art. Recent residencies and partnerships include: Day of the Species, Devils@Cradle and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

During her time as our artist-in-residence, Ronelle has helped us celebrate the release of our Plains-wanderer documentary by drawing our own female Plains-wanderer!

Artist in Residence FY 2022

Vanda Cummins

‘I strive to capture the beauty in nature I see, and the kind of stillness nature provides. I hope to plant a seed, a flicker of curiosity, that drives the viewer to explore their relationship with nature and themselves, to embark on their own journey, and share it with others.’ says Vanda.

Vanda Cummins is a self-taught watercolourist with a deep drive to connect people with the nature around them. She approached us to offer her talent in 2019 and thus the Remember The Wild Artist-in-Residence partnership was born.

During her residence, Vanda instigated and drove an impressive Threatened Species Inktober campaign, prompting artists and non-artists a-like to have a go at creating art while learning about Australian species at risk of extinction. At the end of the campaign, Vanda ran an art sale fundraiser, which saw many of her Inktober artists donate their work to Remember The Wild’s mission.

Vanda now regularly works with conservation organisations to help connect people to Australian nature and the threats they face. We loved her Wild At Home vlog series with FAME Species and the Raising Rarity team at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria.
